TORONTO – June 01, 2004 –
xwave, an Aliant company (TSX: AIT), and Octanewave Software Inc., a provider of enterprise mobility software, today announced an agreement to jointly sell and deliver mobility solutions to the public sector. Drawing from Octanewave’s Enterprise Mobility Platform and
xwave’s IT-services expertise, the partnership will result in rapidly deployed wireless solutions that enable government workers to access relevant information in real time. Such access will help workers increase productivity, improve communication accuracy, and reduce administrative costs.
Working closely with federal, provincial, and municipal governments,
xwave and Octanewave will develop applications that capture field information electronically and integrate it directly into back-office systems, eliminating the need for double data entry. This is of key importance to governments as they seek to streamline their business processes and increase their ability to respond to the evolving needs of their communities. Equipped with these applications, workers such as firefighters, police officers, building inspectors and transit operators can instantly access and relay information in the field, greatly improving efficiency and lowering costs.
“
xwave’s leadership in the delivery of IT services and their in-depth domain expertise in the public sector is a great complement to our technology,” said Stephanie Perrin, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Octanewave. “This strategic relationship offers organizations in the public sector both the technology and the expertise necessary to deploy next-generation enterprise mobility applications to serve their constituents more effectively.”
“The demand for mobile and wireless solutions is increasing, and we need a mobility technology that will allow us to deliver solutions to our clients quickly and effectively,” said, Ranald McGillis, Vice President, Central Business Unit,
xwave. “We need a proven and scalable technology that allows us to focus on delivering strong business solutions without technology constraints. Octanewave’s Enterprise Mobility Platform provides the flexibility we need.”
The two companies are working on a number of initiatives, including the current implementation of a pilot wireless AVL solution for a large public transportation provider. The solution will be showcased at the annual Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) conference, May 31 – June 2, 2004, at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel & Conference Centre in Richmond Hill.
Octanewave's Enterprise Mobility Platform moves data seamlessly between enterprise systems and mobile employees with 'always-on' mobile applications that support mission-critical business functions. The Octanewave model-driven architecture ensures that mobility applications operate independently of the underlying network and technology infrastructure on any combination of RIM’s BlackBerry®, PocketPC, WinCE, or Tablet devices. The platform supports all major security technologies and standards, and offers features that allow administrators to react proactively to device loss or theft. It also includes an operations console that supports over-the-air provisioning and application updates, an essential administrative tool for managing applications in a mobile enterprise. Octanewave's Enterprise Mobility Platform is designed with a message-based architecture (MOMA) that supports a client/server model in WiFi environments where network coverage is stable, and store-and-forward messaging capabilities for wireless WAN environments where network coverage is signal-dependent and data integrity controls are essential.
