HOUSTON - BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leader in enterprise management, today announced that
xwave, an Aliant Company [TSX: AIT], has extended its 10-year relationship with BMC Software. After evaluating the competition,
xwave chose BMC Software`s SmartDBA data management solutions for their automation and ease-of-use. The ability to manage databases across both distributed and mainframe environments via a common look and feel enabled
xwave to streamline its data management process and address the shortage of mainframe DBAs. By eliminating the learning curves traditionally associated with managing mainframe databases and automating previously time consuming tasks,
xwave was able to consolidate its DBA staff and ensure greater efficiencies within its team.
xwave plans, designs, builds, and operates complete business solutions for clients in target sectors such as telecommunications, energy, and the public sector. As one of the largest Information and Communications Technology companies in Canada,
xwave`s clients look to them to deliver fully integrated solutions that will help them grow and remain competitive.
With a number of its senior mainframe DBAs soon to retire,
xwave found themselves in need of a plan to proactively transfer their knowledge. Replacing these DBAs with new talent was a challenge as there are few mainframe DBAs entering today`s job market. Additionally, the existing technology being used required their databases to be managed manually. BMC Software`s SmartDBA data management solutions were the answers to
xwave`s situation.
`We rely heavily on mainframes and anticipate them to play a major role within our IT environment for a long time. However, finding skilled mainframe talent to support this platform is a challenge,` said Marsha Robinson, database administrator,
xwave. `SmartDBA eliminated the complexities traditionally associated with managing the mainframe and enabled us to streamline and standardize how we manage data for a more efficient and consistent process.`
SmartDBA enables businesses to manage more data with fewer skilled DBAs and better precision. Its common look and feel across all major databases made it possible for
xwave`s distributed DBA team, with declining senior IMS and DB2 skilled resources, to proficiently manage mainframe databases. Additionally, it enabled the automation of repeatable tasks, freeing up DBAs to focus on other more technical proficiencies. The end results for
xwave are increased productivity, consistent processes among staff and cost savings.
`With skilled mainframe talent declining, it is necessary for companies to plan ahead to ensure future support. Implementing the proper tools now will ensure an easier transition when existing staff retire,` said Bill Miller, vice president and general manager, mainframe management solutions, BMC Software. `
xwave`s proactive planning should alleviate any potential transition issues and enable them to continue delivering the same high level business services their customers have become accustomed to.`
