OTTAWA - xwave, an Aliant company (TSX: AIT), announced today it has signed contracts with the City of Kingston, Ontario to deliver an
xwaveCAD fire dispatching and mobile workstation solution, and with the City of Camrose, Alberta for an
xwaveCAD police dispatching and mobile workstation solution.
`These contracts for Kingston and Camrose allow
xwave to leverage our industry-leading public safety communications solutions and our considerable reputation in the municipal arena,` said John Taker, Director, Business Development, Public Safety Group,
xwave. `Both public safety and municipal government are areas in which
xwave excels, and both offer opportunities for continued growth and innovation-while at the same time giving us the chance to make a significant difference in the ability of public safety professionals to do their jobs.`
xwave has 17 years of experience developing computer-aided dispatch and mobile technology, which encompasses the
xwaveCAD dispatching system as well as the Remote Office and Dispatch System (ROADS) for in-car laptops, and OnPatrol, an application for BlackBerry Wireless Handheld devices. Together, these solutions allow police and fire personnel to assign emergency calls, query databases, and locate vehicles in the field, all quickly, silently and securely.
For Kingston Fire & Rescue,
xwaveCAD will be interfaced to the voice radio system and a fire hall alerting system, a fire records management system and Falcon Security`s Wireless Alarm Monitoring System, which will provide information from remote smoke detectors, sprinklers and pull-alarms to automatically generate dispatch information. The system will also provide complete dispatching functionality for both a central command centre and mobile command posts. It will use a wireless data network to relay calls to remote locations, and enable the dispatching of calls to pagers. With these capabilities, the system will support not only Kingston Fire & Rescue, but also the fire services of several outlying fire departments within the County, which depend upon the services of volunteer fire fighters.
`Kingston Fire & Rescue provides the best services and support possible for what is a thriving and growing urban area,` said Fire Chief Harold Tulk. `The improved communications enabled by this new
xwaveCAD solution will help us meet our safety objectives, and better serve both the population of Kingston and residents in surrounding areas.`
For the City of Camrose,
xwave is delivering a complete dispatch/mobile workstation solution that includes
xwaveCAD and ROADS software, hardware and training. The solution will interface with major databases such as the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and the national Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS). The Camrose solution will serve the Camrose Police Service as well as 10 fire services and seven ambulance services in the region.
xwave has designed and built secure communication systems for law enforcement and emergency services agencies since 1989. The
xwave dispatch solution is installed in more than 35 dispatch centres and the in-car ROADS workstation is in use in about 2, 000 police cruisers, all across Canada.
In addition to
xwaveCAD and ROADS, the company has created a wireless solution called On Patrol, which operates on BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ devices.
xwave is also a leader in the development of information management systems for Corrections Departments; the CORIS solution (Corrections Information System) is now in use in New Brunswick and has also been adopted by several U.S. states. The company operates a full-fledged Public Safety Practice whose members possess a thorough understanding of the operational and human challenges faced by public safety professionals, and who continually strive to deliver solutions that increase both efficiency and safety.
