Radar simulation for TRIBAL Class destroyers expected to reduce life-cycle support costs
OTTAWA, ON – xwave, a Division of Bell Aliant (TSX: BA.UN), and its partner Blue Ridge Simulation, have been contracted to deliver and integrate a radar simulation and video distribution system into the Command and Control System Trainer (CCST) within the TRIBAL Combat System Support Facility (TCSF) at the Canadian Forces Fleet School Esquimalt located in Victoria B.C. The radar simulator will help the Navy maintain effective training for its TRIBAl Class Destroyer crews using a simulation that is PC-based offering lower life-cycle supports costs.
The radar simulator, supplied by Blue Ridge Simulation, will produce an accurate model of the shipboard radars of the TRIBAL Class and the integration of this system by xwave into the command and control trainer will allow for the training of multiple radar operators simultaneously in the shore-based training facility in BC.
The radar simulation and video distribution system delivered by xwave will replace aging components within the CCST. Integrating seamlessly with the Trainer’s existing simulation engine, the radar simulation and video distribution system will now enable the simulator to effectively provide sensor simulation for the trainee operators.
“The selection of
xwave as the supplier of this system is a reflection of the company’s substantial experience in the area of military simulation,” said Don McClure, Regional Director, Ottawa,
xwave. “This project requires considerable integration expertise and, given our particular track record developing simulation systems for the CP-140 Aurora and CH-148 maritime helicopters, we are well equipped to meet the Canadian Navy’s needs.”
xwave has been a key defence and aerospace contractor for more than three decades. In addition to its work for the CP-140 Aurora maritime-patrol aircraft and the CH-148s, the company has recently delivered the hardware and software for an Air-to-Air Re-fuelling (AAR) mission-management system for Airbus Deutschland GmbH; the AAR system will be used on German and Canadian Airbus A310 Multi-role Transport Tankers (MRTTs). Further,
xwave has recently developed a situation-awareness knowledge portal called COP 21 for Defence R&D Canada (DRDC).
